ASUS to discontinue Zenfone smartphone line-up: Report

The ASUS Zenfone series is reportedly coming to an end with the upcoming Zenfone 10 model, according to Taiwanese media reports. This development is part of a larger "organizational restructuring" initiative at ASUS that has had an impact on their PC division operations in Taiwan and China.

Shift to Mobile Phone Divisions

An internal communication from ASUS outlined a plan to reassign some employees from the PC department to the mobile phone divisions, including the Zenfone and ROG Phone teams. However,

it seems that instead of being reassigned, these employees were eventually laid off.

This shift seems to stem from ASUS' decision to discontinue the Zenfone series altogether. Consequently, the Zenfone team will be disbanded, and team members will either be absorbed into other departments within the company or transitioned to the ROG Phone team.

ASUS had previously communicated its intentions to reorganize its structure in June, emphasizing that no layoffs would occur. Nevertheless, by July, the company had indeed reduced the number of employees in its PC division, impacting teams in both Taiwan and Suzhou, China.

Conclusion of the Zenfone Series

The Zenfone 10 model is anticipated to be the final addition to the Zenfone series, marking the conclusion of a product line that was inaugurated in 2014. Despite its existence for several years, the Zenfone series struggled to attain significant recognition in the Android market, particularly in the United States.

Interestingly, the Zenfone 10 was available for pre-order in the United States a few weeks prior. It's important to note that ASUS has not yet publicly addressed the reports regarding the discontinuation of the Zenfone series.
