Huawei Mate 60 Pro debuts with three punch holes in the display

Huawei has taken everyone by surprise with the unexpected launch of the Mate 60 Pro, foregoing the usual extensive teaser campaign or major event. This new smartphone is now available for pre-order on Vmall, the company's online store in China, allowing local customers to reserve their units.

The standout feature of the Mate 60 Pro is the trio of punch holes embedded in the display, housing both the selfie camera and the 3D Time-of-Flight (ToF) sensor. Beyond this, the phone represents an evolutionary upgrade from its predecessor.

Presenting a substantial 6.82-inch 10-bit LTPO OLED screen with a resolution of 2720 x 1260 pixels and a 120 Hz adaptive refresh rate, the Mate 60 Pro also boasts a second-generation Kunlun Glass layered atop the panel.

The arrangement of holes at the top replicates the configuration found in the Mate 40 Pro and Mate 50 Pro, featuring a 13 MP ultrawide selfie camera in conjunction with the sensors and lasers essential for 3D facial mapping, utilized for the Face ID feature.

Turning attention to the rear of the device, a circular module accommodates three more cameras. This includes the well-established 50 MP main unit equipped with Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) and Phase Detection Autofocus (PDAF), a familiar feature from the Mate 50 Pro. Alongside is the P60 Pro, complete with an f/1.4-f/4.0 variable aperture. The ultrawide-angle camera employs a 12 MP sensor and an f/2.2 lens, while the third camera houses a 48 MP sensor and an f/3.0 telephoto lens, featuring OIS and Auto Focus (AF).

Notably, the Huawei Mate 60 Pro introduces support for satellite messaging within China. The device's 5,000 mAh battery is compatible with both 88W wired and 50W wireless charging, and even offers 20W reverse wireless charging functionality.

The operating system featured is HarmonyOS 4.0, marking the Mate 60 Pro as the pioneer device to come with this user interface right out of the box. However, Huawei has yet to officially disclose the chipset used in the Mate 60 Pro.

Regarding aesthetics, the phone boasts a dual-tone rear panel with four color options. The White and Green variants feature a glass upper part, while the Purple and Black options utilize faux leather. Interestingly, these color names are inspired by various locations in China, reflecting Huawei's incorporation of the country's natural elements during color development.

Configurations for the Huawei Mate 60 Pro include 12 GB of RAM and three storage options: 256 GB, 512 GB, and 1 TB. Presently, only the middle variant is listed on the company's website, priced at CNY 6,999 (approximately $960/€900).

Queries have been directed to Huawei executives regarding the phone's chipset and international availability. Updates will be provided once responses are received.
